Top Jock Set To Retire

Olivier Peslier, renowned as one of the outstanding international riders of contemporary times, has revealed his forthcoming retirement at the age of 51. With an illustrious career that includes four victories in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and four championship titles as a jockey in France, Peslier will bid farewell to the racetrack after taking two mounts at La Teste in southwestern France on Thursday. This moment signifies the conclusion of a remarkable journey marked by numerous triumphs on the global stage, including prestigious wins at the Derby, the Japan Cup, and the Breeders' Cup.

Reflecting on his remarkable career, Peslier expressed gratitude for his more than 3,700 victories worldwide, including 502 Group race wins, with 165 of them being Group 1s, even in Arabian races. He acknowledged the inevitability of this decision, stating, "Like everyone, my turn has arrived." Despite retiring slightly younger than fellow jockey Frankie Dettori, Peslier leaves behind a legacy of excellence. He hopes his career serves as an inspiration and reflects, "It’s been an extraordinary career and I would hope I can say it’s been an exemplary one."
